Yes, this is very inexpensive desk and yes, it is made cheaply. You should understand this when purchasing. The drawers are a plastic front and fabric box basically. In the end while it is made more cheaply than I thought it would be..... it does look pretty decent, and the desk will work well for me as a secondary gaming desk for my budget PC.ALSO, the people having problems with the holes in the top need to check the rail (part number 11) because the installed it the wrong way. The instructions do not specify it, but the holes are closer to the edge on one side and will move the cross rails with the screw holes in the frame off. Flip number 11 over and it should fix the problem. The side with the hole closer to the edge should be to the rear of the desk. I included a picture and there is about 7/8" difference in hole placement which will throw everything off. There are still 2 holes not used but are there in case you set the desk up in reverse. I am not mounting the top shelf to the top and there are (cheap) stickers included to help hide the holes if you choose to do that as well. I may just order a larger mousepad if it bothers me.
