After about 15 years, my bird scale gave out, so I have been without for quite a while. A medical emergency necessitated purchasing another and I gambled on this one (it had no reviews). It arrived (practically the next day), and I am EXTREMELY pleased! I have a macaw and a large cockatoo, and they perch quite well on the STABLE wooden perch that comes with the scale.Another great benefit? It takes two triple A batteries, not that dreaded 9-volt that never seems to be in my drawer.I know everyone is going to ask about the measurements, so here they are:The scale itself measures 9 1/4" x 11 7/16" and stands approximately 15/16" tall (thickness).I measured the distance of the perch ON CENTER, so the two vertical bars are 8" on center (from the middle of one post to the middle of the other post). The HEIGHT of the perch is approximately 10 1/4" from the top of the scale (the glass part), to the middle of the perch, which tells you how high from the glass the standing part of the perch is. Add 15/16" for the thickness of the scale. The perching dowel measures 3/4" around with my tape measure. For my macaw, there really isn't a scale large enough (at least that I want) where his tail wouldn't touch the table, so I place the scale at the edge of the table so his tail goes over and doesn't skew the weight by having his tail put pressure on the table and cause the scale to mis-weigh.The cockatoo was high enough up that I didn't have to worry about her tail.Is this scale super-accurate? I don't know. It seems accurate enough. The next time I visit the vet (hopefully not soon), I will take a home measurement to compare. I think for avian purposes, unless you're a vet, you'll find this perfect for keeping track of your babies' weights and noting if there are any problems.I love the easy-clean glass surface. The scale was nicely packed; I'm keeping the box in case I move. Otherwise, I intend to keep the scale in tact, with the perch on it, so I'm not constantly putting undue pressure on the scale itself by disassembling and re-assembling it. I'm just going to lightly cover it and place it where it's easily accessible, so I make sure to use it.I HIGHLY recommend this scale. It is VERY stable for ANY bird. I thought the price was reasonable considering the work that had to go into designing the post holes on the scale itself, and then presenting a wooden perch that assembles easily and is stable. It is also very attractive.
