I bought this table 7 years ago and it still looks as good today as it did when I got it. It is very sturdy and made from quality wood. You will not be getting particle board with this table. It has held up beautifully with kids and animals around. It is the perfect size to set up a backgammon or chess board on. Would totally buy this again! We needed a couple of end tables for our recently-completed sun room, so I ordered one of these tables to see what it was like. It fit our needs so well that I immediately ordered a second one. For such a low price, this end table is excellent. When you open the box, the first thing that you'll notice is the packaging. If there is an award for best packaging, this receives my vote. There are 5 wooden pieces (top, 2 shelves, front, and back) and each is identified by a small lettered sticker. Each piece is wrapped in foam to prevent scratches and dings. The wrapped pieces are then nestled inside custom-fit foam pieces so there is not a bit of wasted space. A set of instructions and the hardware bag complete the contents of the shipping carton. The hardware bag is even attached to a length of red tape so it can be easily identified, something I'd never seen before. The hardware bag contains 4 smaller bags and an Allen wrench. Three of the bags are numbered, and the 4th is labeled "Extra Hardware". The assembly instructions clearly identify, by diagram and by description, each wooden piece (by its letter), and each piece of hardware (by the number of its bag). The only negative impression that I had with the entire process was with the instructions themselves. The 4 steps that together comprise "Step 1" are not very clearly written, and are therefore somewhat confusing. An assembly video would help but I never found one, either on YouTube or on the company's website (www.simpli-home.com). Between the instructions and the excellent diagrams, however, I eventually got everything put together. There is only one way that each piece of hardware can be used, so it's virtually impossible to connect the pieces incorrectly. By the way, you can view the instruction booklet for yourself on the website mentioned above.Although it's not too clearly spelled out in the instructions, you will need 3 basic tools:• a large flathead screwdriver• a smaller Phillips screwdriver (I used a battery-powered screwdriver with a Phillips head attachment instead)• a rubber mallet (I used a simple hammer instead)As mentioned, an Allen wrench is included in the hardware bag.The instructions recommend 2 people work together, but I was easily able to build both of my end tables by myself. The first table took me approximately 45 minutes to unpackage, lay out, and assemble. The 2nd table took half that time. The final product is very sturdy. It looks far more expensive than its actual price. Although some people have said its color is darker than they expected, I think it fits the "rich tobacco brown" description perfectly.I've built a lot of assemble-it-yourself furniture over the years and I have never been more satisfied as I am with these end tables.I bought the same table from another site a few years ago to use as a coffee table in a small living room. I decided to start using it as a nightstand in the bedroom so I needed a matching one and was glad that Amazon had it available in the same color. It's a very nice and seemingly sturdy table - the other one is held up for several years now - but this one had some challenges with assembly. There are 6 cams and cam screws to attach the bottom shelf to the legs, and 3 of the cam screws - 2 on one side and 1 on the other - where I struggle to get in as they kept wanting to screw in at an angle, and 1 of them didn't even want to screw all the way down as it was supposed to. As a result, it was very difficult to line them up with the cam, and when I did get the cam into the hole and turned them, two of them fell out because they were not catching on the screw end. I managed to get two of the three of them attached, but the other one seems flimsy and may fall out. I don't intend to put a lot of weight on these shelves, so I'm not too concerned about it. The rest of it assembled fairly easily. Everything was packaged extremely well protected in transit, and they even included extras of all the hardware. I didn't need them, but that was nice to have just in case.I purchased this table to specifically match a glider that I was given as a gift. It was very difficult to find this color. It is a nice looking table. However, when I opened the box up there were ALREADY four scratches on it. That did not please me at all. I am a relatively quick study when it comes to assembling products. I have assembled NUMEROUS products that required cam lock pins. Some of the cam lock pins on this table did not automatically lock. I had to work at it. Not sure, but the depth of the holes might have been different. The tiny weeny holes that the cam lock pins screwed into were much too small. They had to be enlarged before anything could be accomplished. While screwing in one of the cam lock pins the wood chipped. The dowels or the holes that they went into were apparently different sizes. Some of the dowels stayed in place while others kept falling out during assembly. Bottom line, the assembly process was a little frustrating. It should not have been. When I finally put the top on I could see that underneath the top was not completely stained. It was kind of hit and miss. To me, that is a reflection on the quality of workmanship. At one point I was ready to pack it up and ship it back.Based on the above, I am not confident that it was worth the price that I paid. There should not have been ANY scratches on it upon receipt and the wood should not have chipped.I probably would not buy from this company again.. ,Nice table. Best packaging I have ever seen. Seriously. Usually, you get a big bag with all the hardware included and you get to sort them out to make sure you have them all before you get started. Not this one - each individual separate bolt, screw, cam, dowel - all individually packaged in its own separate tiny ziplock bag. The large components (legs, shelf, top) were so securely packaged I was astounded. Only one problem - the cams are pitiful. Everything else seemed of uniformly good quality, but the instant you picked up the cams, it was obvious - cheap, rough edges, had devil of a time getting them to do the job. It's not supposed to be this difficult to get the cams to lock. Exactly one locked in place with the first try. The rest took several tries, and one I had to ditch completely and go to the backup package to find one that would work. Fix the cams!!This table looks lovely but it has been a NIGHTMARE to assemble!! We are seniors and don’t have the hand strength a younger person has. The instructions are unclear and the print is very small! We will try one more time but I think it will end up being returned. These tables are solid wood (no press broad) great quality and very easy to read and follow instructions.Solid wood table, good quality. Easy to assemble. Included spare parts which you rarely see these days. Helped as one piece of hardware broke on me during assembly.happy with our purchase.Got this as a gift for someone. She loves it. Very sturdy wood, heavy, looks great. NOT cheap pressboard like you'd find at walmart.
