This chair looks very nice and seems well built. The range of motion is nice. It's a little tall at its lowest setting, I'm 6'1" and my feet kind of dangle, but it's still low enough for me to work comfortably at a standard desk. I typically work at a standing desk though, and it is tall enough for me to work comfortably at its highest setting. It feels sturdy at its highest setting, which was a concern for me when buying it.People aren't kidding about the vague instructions, but by and large the assembly process is straightforward. I did run into one issue during assembly, and I think it's worth going through at length since it sounds like others may have had the same issue.I had to loosen the adjustment collar on the foot ring all the way in order to get it onto the gas cylinder. When the adjustment collar got the the end of its travel it stuck, and I couldn't get it to tighten again. This meant the foot ring would just spin around freely. The collar wouldn't tighten to grip the gas cylinder, so the foot . I contacted the company for support, they tried to help but I'm not sure they understood what my issue was.The solution was to use a strap wrench to grip the flanges that make up the bottom collar of the foot ring adjustment mechanism and turn the foot ring in the "Loosen" direction. That broke it loose, and then I could adjust it easily by hand. Now it works as intended, no issues.I saw the reviews saying the up/down gas cylinder on this thing fails, but though 'eh, it's probably an isolated production thing, I'm sure they've fixed it by now.' Answer: they have not. I used this chair for about 6 months at which point it began randomly and at the most inopportune times possible descending to its lowest position in a motion that would be comic if not so frustrating. Sitting on a Zoom call with Jan from Accounting, my entire body descends out of frame like the wobbly establishing shot of a community college student film.'But can't you just replace the gas cylinder?' I hear you ask. 'They're cheap.' Yes, yes you can. But if you're going to do it, for the love of Pete, do it before you ever once assemble it. Removing the old incontinent gas cylinder after 6 months of holding up my sturdy posterior was akin to removing the brake caliper on a 1988 Caprice that spent its entire life on a Rural Indiana dirt road. Pipe wrenches, levers, a torch, and enough youtube videos to send some aspiring influencer to internet college, I finally got the thing out, completely destroying the cylinder and the foot rest with which it has become one for eternity in a way that would make the likes of Kirk Camron jealous. All of which to say, if you think about a chair's purpose in life, it's pretty simple: hold person up, comfortably. This one gets a community college B-minus on the latter and an utter fail on the former. My chair will not stay up, called HON, and was told to send a request on their contact page. I have sent two requests with no response. Chair is 1 1/2 years old and falling apart! Update, received part within a week.I put the chair together with no issues until I loosened the footring. It locked up and would not tighten again after I adjusted height. Turned to the instruction, nothing about how to fix the issue. No instructions or information on HON website. I disassembled it and took the locking mechanism apart. I was able to loosen the inner ring. Put the locking mechanism back together and reassembled the chair. Working fine now. Seems like this could be a common issue and would expect HON to have info on how to deal with this. The LOW position of 22" Feels just a little high. (I'm 6'1" so for people with shorter legs I'm sure this is felt even more). When on the low set, the most used setting for me, I generally have my feet on the foot rail to prevent strain. It's perfect without the castors. It is very easily adjusted, well balanced at it's highest, (about 32), however, because I use the foot rail at ITS lowest when the chair is low, I can't reach it when the chair height it at the highest. The foot rail IS adjustable but it is a hand crank screw type set which takes a little coordination to adjust and a couple of re-tightentings. It should float with the chair height adjustment but unfortunately it does not. That being said, to do what it does makes it the perfect solution for me where I have limited space with Desk/Counter/Bar height surfaces all at hand which become much more useful with the adjustable chair height. It is fairly comfortable in a "Working Comfort" kind of way, i.e. "You won't be sore, but you sure won't take a nap".I got this chair in the leather since the fabric reviews were not great and I am glad I did. This chair is beautiful! Super sleek and modern. The best looking chair I found (and I researched for weeks). I will update this review after I have had it for more than 6 months to let you know how it holds up. I am using it for a mini desk set I created using Ikea's Bjorkudden Bar table. I like that the foot-ring is adjustable and can go high up. The wheel base is not too big, so I was able to fit it into a tight corner. The chair is very comfortable, adjusts up and down easily and glides on it wheels nicely. I got it with the arms which are sold separately and are also adjustable up and down. It took me about 20 minutes to put it together by myself. As other reviews advise, put the wheels on first. It comes with the tools you need - which is an allen wrench and a few bolts. Super easy to set up.This is a serious office chair. When you sit on it, you just get the feeling that they wanted to build the best chair they could; it is engineering done properly. If you are looking for a chair with 24 different adjustments, you will likely not appreciate what this chair does offer; exceptional comfort and excellent build quality. I too was brainwashed into thinking I needed 3 different arm rest adjustments and tilt mechanisms, and was originally looking at those types of chairs for my home studio/office. Then I visited another Architectural firm that had a dozen of these chairs and tried one out. I purchased it the next day (as well as the regular height version). If you use your office chair a lot, need something that will be comfortable for hours on end, and need it to last for a long time, I doubt you will be disappointed with these chairs. Add a set of fancy casters like I also reviewed and you're good to go.One thing I should mention. If you run hot like I do, it may be worth looking at the fabric version of this chair. My regular height version is cloth, and I find it to be a little cooler for extended work sessions.I would recommend this, and will purchase again.Expensive but worth every penny. This is not the typical cheap chair, HON is quality. Everything works as it should and the chair is made well and heavy unlike cheap chairs. I was hesitant to spend that much but I won't buy anything else. This was a replacement chair for a more expensive HON Model task chair. I am not sure of the softhread Leather fabric durability compared to the fabric version it is replacing, Only time will tell. But the small brass chips generated during our assembly process do not embed themselves into the leather as they do the fabric. Far easier to wipe the chips away.As expected great heavy weight art chair.
