When I got back into drumming a few years ago, I was appalled by how heavy-duty (and expensive) hardware has gotten these days. I really don't think that's necessary. Neither do I want to haul the excess weight. Come on, I gigged for years with no problems using hardware that would be considered subpar today. But when I shopped in music stores, I couldn't even find decent lightweight hardware. Everything I saw was either too heavy-duty or a toy.I was therefore pleased to find this lightweight snare stand from a reputable company for a decent low-ish price, and was even more pleased after it arrived. It really is lightweight, but doesn't give the impression of being flimsy. It seems pretty darn sturdy. Actually, it seems sturdier than some of the heavy-duty ones I tried. The basket grips the snare snugly while the stand is solid. It's what hardware ought to be, in my opinion.Given Gibraltar's reputation for quality, I can't imagine this stand breaking, but in fairness I need to wait a few years to find out. The real test of hardware is how well it holds up over time. I have no reason to suspect that there will be a problem down the road, just admitting that I haven't used the stand long enough to know for sure.
