The rack is a lightweight wood (pine) with a very basic stained finish. (If the unit is to be used outdoors at all, would need an additional weatherproof finish.) Light wood means lighter and easier to move; it may also mean it can't be treated roughly overloaded with multiple saddles.Unit comes completely disassembled, and includes a screw driver. With a drill gun philips bit assembly took about 20 minutes. After assembly the unit is sturdy and stable -- but again light weight wood.Comes with optional hooks for each end; we say optional as we choose to skip them, and will likely use them on a wall in the tack shed. Meanwhile considering pickng up a couple of handles (one for each end) to facilitate moving the rack.Also comes with a shallow storage box underneath -- place for spare irons, or leather cleaning supplies or the like.Instructions were a little spare, but for anyone remotely handy the photos were adequete. And if you've seen this style rack before, there is nothing odd or unsual about how it goes together.All in all, not bad for the price. If your looking for something to pass on to the grandchildren this is not it; but it will hold a saddle up off the floor in an appropriate way.
