I have a small wall in the primary bedroom between the door and a closet which is the only wall that I can place our tv. Originally had a 32" tv sitting on a 1970s stereo cabinet that had been moved to 4 different houses in it's life and was shaky at best. I had originally bought wall mounts, but after 13 years of kicking the box they came in since the husband refused to put them up, I had to find something sturdy to hold the tv. So when I upgraded to a 40" tv, I needed something sturdier to support it, in addition to being strong enough that the tv wouldn't fall with 2 rambunctious labrador retrievers and a klutzy ME!! The ones with tempered glass were ruled out since I'm so afraid the glass would break between getting knocked with the vacuum or one of the dogs. This tv stand fits the bill. There is room enough on each of the 2 shelves to put any cable tv boxes, a dvd player, or even just some knick knacks. The stand itself enabled me to mount the 40" tv far enough off the floor that I could see it while laying in bed, even if a large dog or spouse is laying next to you. It has a variety of different heights that it can be adjusted if you want your tv lower or higher. You can tilt the tv to one side or the other for better viewing. It is remarkably balanced, and seems well made. It went together easily and I'm confident that my tv is safe and secure from tipping over. Plus, it was reasonably priced. The only downfall is that because it's black, it really shows the dust and white labrador hair. I would definitely purchase this again, or if I was in a position where I couldn't have a tv hanging on the wall.
