Yes, you can just look at nature. But when you look at its reflection in the black scrying mirror, it's as if you are seeing it as an old painting. At first, I didn't get it. But then I set it up so that it the woods outside my family room windows were reflected in it. It really is so interesting to see it that way. As to the product itself, it's well made and attractive. Perhaps if I were to buy another one, I'd get a larger one.
