While this knife holder is a bit pricey, and a luxury item without a doubt, it's definitely worth a look. The material is sturdy, and insets are solid. There's zero "wiggle," once assembled. The magnets that hold the knives are the strongest I've encountered (I would say they're probably N40). The upright has no give to it, once the bolts are firmly in place. The aesthetics are even greater than the one on the ad page. It has the look of marble fused to wood, and the weight/heft gives the impression of high quality materials. Each side will hold 9 knives, and there is a very distinctive "zone" for each individual knife. The consumer can feel the knife "break away" from the magnetic grip, and moving the knife over one zone has a very distinct feel to it. Unlike other magnetic knife holders I've tried, this one is designed and constructed in such a way as to hold each knife in its own field, keeping the knives directly upright. They seem to be either multi-magnet, or one long magnet. Either way, the grip on the blade is stronger and longer. This also provides consistent spacing. Others I've tried will allow knives to "tilt" and can relinquish their hold an an individual knife, as a result. We've dropped a knife or two from those, and ended up bending the tips on a couple, in the process. It's hard to express in words how gut-wrenching it is to find that the tip of one of your favorite knives has been bent. While it's ridiculous to place the expectation that this won't happen, it certainly reduces the likelihood, compared to the standard style.Beautiful, high quality, and well designed and executed. This is definitely a highly recommendable kitchen accessory The only thing that prevents a five-star rating is that it is likely cost-prohibitive to so many. I'd go with about 4.7, if I was allowed that level of assignment. Alas, this will have to go down as a 4 star item.
